A quick history
Leonard Stanley was once a bustling market town, with the 1801 census showing most people were employed in agriculture, trade and manufacturing. After a fire in the 17th century the town stopped growing so rapidly, and by today’s standards is the size of a village with around 600 residents. The village has a parish church, St Swithun, which dates back to the 12th century.
Business and industry
Although Leonard Stanley is a village, it’s close to a number of big employers in neighbouring towns and cities. Omega Resource Group, Nine Telecom Group and Smiths (Gloucester) are all based in Stonehouse, while Stroud is home to Tudor Rose International and renewable energy company Ecotricity.
