Things to see and do


For residents living in north Devon, heading to the beach and exploring the many coves and craggy headlands is a favourite pastime. The best beaches in the area include Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton, Braunton, Hele Bay, Instow and Lynmouth, all offering their own unique blend of surfing, scenery, delicious cuisine and coastal views. You can also pick up the South West Coast Path in north Devon, England’s longest waymarked long-distance footpath.

Exmoor National Park is located in both north Devon and Somerset and is home to some of the UK’s most picturesque locations. To really get the most out of the national park, you should head out on one of the many fantastic walks. These include Valley of Rocks, East Lyn River and Elwill Bay on the Devon side, as well as numerous in the Somerset side.

The A39 serves north Devon, connecting with both the A361 and A377 at Barnstaple. You can get to coastal villages and seaside resorts such as Ilfracombe via the A361, while the same road links Barnstaple to the M5 motorway and the rest of the UK road network. You can reach Exeter in an hour and a quarter, Plymouth in under two hours, Bournemouth in three hours, and Bristol in under two hours via Taunton.

The main principle railway station in the area is Barnstaple, which has direct services to Exeter with a journey time of one hour.

Exeter International Airport is close by and can connect you to several UK airports including Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Belfast and those in the Channel Islands. It also offers international flights to Amsterdam and Dublin.
