What is the history of East Leake?
East Leake was mentioned in the 11th century Domesday Book, but historians believe settlements in the local area date back to prehistoric times. A number of Roman artefacts have been discovered in and around the town, but East Leake didn’t become a thriving village until Anglo-Saxon times.
In the medieval era, East Leake was mainly populated by farms. Over the centuries as farming technology advanced, the area became more wealthy, while there was also a textile industry growing along the brook. When the railway line joined the village with its larger neighbours including Nottingham and Leicester, East Leake became more and more popular with commuters.
