Edinburgh is a city with an incredibly rich history and schooling is no exception to this in the Scottish capital, with a great selection of well-established and highly regarded options for your kids. Home to one of the world’s top universities and a range of historic schools and colleges, there’s also a great selection of primary schools in Edinburgh. Whether you live in the city centre, west of town in Kirkliston or over in seaside suburb Prestonpans, we’ve picked out five of the best primary schools in Edinburgh.
Tollcross Primary School
Centrally located just a few hundred metres from the iconic Edinburgh Castle, Tollcross Primary is rated among the top schools for youngsters in the city. The school celebrated its centenary back in 2012 and continues to nurture a warm, caring and inclusive ethos to this day. Tollcross is only around four miles from our excellent Cammo Meadows development, where you can find a stunning selection of 4 bedroom family homes for sale.
Stockbridge Primary School
Like Tollcross, Stockbridge is also a relatively small school which ranks among the top Edinburgh primary schools. With approximately 250 pupils currently attending, this primary lies within a pleasant area which is perfect for families. In addition to the usual emphasis on education standards, children at Stockbridge are actively encouraged to participate in after-school activities to expand their all-round development.
South Morningside Primary School
On the way south of the city centre out towards Fairmilehead, this primary pays particular attention to building strong partnerships with parents. It also has a strong partnership with the excellent Boroughmuir High School, one of Edinburgh’s top secondaries. Just a few miles from our superb Heritage Grange site, this excellent primary also has a nursery attached for your little ones.
Sciennes Primary School
A couple of miles south of Stockbridge Primary, Sciennes is just the other side of the Old Town on the Southside. Serving the popular Marchmont area and other surrounding spots, this school is quite large at around 650 pupils, but this doesn’t detract from the quality of teaching. Indeed, Sciennes Primary has close links with the highly-regarded James Gillespie’s High School and also offers a strong selection of after-school activities.
Parsons Green Primary School
If you live over in beachside suburb Portobello just east of Edinburgh’s city centre, Parsons Green Primary is one of the best schools for younger kids. Also offering a nursery where little ones can start their education from an early age, the school lies on the edge of Holyrood Park and is only a mile or so from the beach.
